In the beginning, there was Mother Universe, and naught else.
SHE drifted, solitary, in the Dark, enveloped in the solitude of Nothingness, but in time did SHE become dulled by surfeit. HER ennui turned to lonesomeness, which then became dolor. Thusly, was Mother Universe moved to bend HER illimitable Will to the grand enterprise of metamorphosing the Nothingness.
From the Voidstuff did SHE bring forth Matter. Matter proved superlatively pliant, and thus did Mother Universe birth HER Daughters of the Matter.
The Firstborn was beautiful beyond compare, with a passion for existence that would remain unmatched for Eternity.
Mother Universe, in her limitless wisdom, knew 'twould be so, and harkened to the Firstborn, "My daughter, you shall be named Medilara; and the flame, to match your burning passion, shall be yours".
HER Secondborn was gentle, reserved, meticulous. A scholar unmatched.
Mother Universe, in her limitless wisdom, knew 'twould be so, and harkened to the Secondborn, "My daughter, you shall be named Miriana; and the earth-stuff, a counter-part to your stoicism, shall be yours".
HER Thirdborn was formed with an intrinsic understanding of the Ebb and Flow of all that She laid eyes on.
Mother Universe, in her limitless wisdom, knew 'twould be so, and harkened to the Thirdborn, "My daughter, you shall be named Melliora; and the waters, chaotic to all but your eye, shall be yours".
HER Lastborn was wild and rebellious--indeed, the personification of Freedom.
Mother Universe, in her limitless wisdom, knew 'twould be so, and harkened to the Lastborn, "My daughter, you shall be named Mitri; and the winds, with their intractable exuberance, shall be yours".
The Daughters of Mother Universe spent an Aeon as their Mother had, drifting in the Void; and lo, as their Mother had, soon grew weary of the Nothingness, dimished as it was by their presence. Thus, They bent their Wills, a combined force nearly as limitless as their Mother's, to the task of infusing Reality with Beauty.
Medilara, as was her impetuous nature, acted first. She focused Her burning passion into the spark of Life. Her Sister, Miriana, saw that it was a wild and fragile thing, and created a tight sphere of stone, a home in which to keep Life. When Melliora saw this, she knew that Life would need sustenance, and thus flooded the sphere with water. Finally, after looking upon her Sisters' work, Mitri gasped in awe, and in doing so, enshrouded all in swirling winds, thus preventing inevitable stagnation, which had been overlooked by her elders.
Together, They filled the planet with Things, born from Their combined abilities. Plants and animals, both great and small, beautiful and terrifying. However, a doubt pulled at Their Minds. Something dire was amiss with Their most admirable work, and this greatly displeased Them. They ruminated upon the issue for a time unfathomable, and Each arrived at Their own Answer.
"Laughter," chimed Mitri.
"Love," asserted Medilara.
"Pleasure," intoned Melliora.
"Happiness," mused Miriana.
In their efforts to create Beauty, they had neglected to imbue their Creation with the qualities they had experienced during its genesis. And yea, The Four did set about creating a lifeform akin to them in all but power and foresight, and filled with these most divine of attributes.
Thus was Good conceived.
Their World drifted in the Void for time indeterminate, devoid of suffering, hunger, anger. Alas, Mother Universe had been lax as well. In HER desire to end her ennui, SHE had not instilled in HER Progeny the knowledge of the Grand Scale. What HER Children had made was ultimate Good and Purity, of this there was no doubt. However, a countervail was mandatory, else the Eternal Void would swallow all.
Though it pained HER greatly to do so, Mother Universe again forged HER Will into sentience.
SHE created the first and greatest of the Ouzza, Brothers to Her Daughters, The Four Daemonlords.
The Firstborn was disdainful and egotistic, and forced his Brethren to conform to his whims.
Mother Universe, in her boundless sorrow, knew t'would be so, and harkened to the Firstborn: "My son, I name you Bakarel the Dominator; and you shall sow the seeds of Pride, Resentment and Tyranny within the thoughts of Man."
The Secondborn was caustic and treacherous, and sought for ways to undo both his Sistren and his Brethren.
Mother Universe, in her boundless sorrow, knew t'would be so, and harkened to the Secondborn: "My son, I name you Rumael the Usurper; and you shall poison the soul of Man with Covetous Greed and Envy."
The Thirdborn was adroit and silver-tongued, with cunning beyond the ken of mere mortals.
Mother Universe, in her boundless sorrow, knew t'would be so, and harkened to the Thirdborn: "My son, I name you Agares the Corruptor; and you shall use Indolence, Malevolence, and Temptation to pervert the heart of Man."
The Fourthborn was cruel beyond measure, with an insatiable thirst for violence that was unmatched by any of his brethren.
Mother Universe, in her boundless sorrow, knew t'would be so, and harkened to her Fourthborn: "My son, I name you Harut the Destroyer; and you shall drive Man to exact Vengeance, Ruination and even Death upon his fellow Man."
Thus was Evil conceived.
Mother Universe sent them out into the World of HER Daughters, to sow Evil and Corruption, thus returning the Grand Scale to equilibrium.
But, blinded by the pain of HER most recent work's necessity, Mother Universe had underestimated the effect HER Sons would have upon the wholly Good and Pure creations of HER Daughters. The sudden arrival of this contagion drove some over the brink of madness, elliciting actions of supreme hate, wrath, depravity, and flagitiousness.
The Ouzza swept through humanity, an infernal plague, turning them to the Darkness almost as quickly as they were spawned.
Medilara was infuriated.
Melliora was appaled.
Mitri was terrified.
Only Miriana truly understood the necessity of the Ouzza--the necessity of Balance.
In Her boundless passion, Medilara ordered Her junior Sisters to move against the Ouzza, but Miriana refused. She had a plan that would save Their creations, as well as maintain the Balance.
As They were not allowed to interfere directly with the affairs of mortals, Miriana instructed Her Sisters in the creation of four particular humans, each an earthly manifestation of Their Wills. Deemed Exemplars, each was imbued with a portion of The Sisters' powers, and charged to walk in the midst of mortals, teaching them the lessons of The Four.
The spread of the cancerous Ouzza slowed. However, this merely served to ignite their incalcuable rage--and drove them to redouble their efforts.
The Daughters, knowing they must do all they could to return the Balance, increased the access humanity had to the powers of the Four Daughters, but only slightly. Each of the Children awakened an Element within the humans, and with these gifts from The Four Goddesses, the humans began their eternal struggle against the Blight of the Ouzza.
