Name: Andrius Orland Graiteale
Location: Graiteale Academy
Occupation: Headmaster
Physical Description: Headmaster Graiteale looks exactly as one would expect a father-figure to look. Silver-haired, slightly wrinkled, with shining gray eyes behind silver-rimmed spectacles. His body does not look to have aged as much as one would expect, he still looks damned powerful, at 6'0” and 180lbs. Not bad for a man of 82, eh?
Magic / Magic Rating: The abilities of Andrius Graiteale are too numerous to be listed exhaustively here. however, he is one of the most powerful Earth Adepts in the world, and possesses an uncanny fortune and surprising longevity that earned him the title Miriana's Chosen Son. Some go so far as to claim that during his adventuring days, Miriana and Andrius were lovers. In truth, Andrius has achieved a direct communion with Miriana herself, and is able to call on her for aid in times of dire need (such as when he eliminated a rampaging groth prepared to tear through Dulathiene).
Magnitude: 8
Speed: 9
Control: 9
Skills / Talents: Master swordsman, highly intelligent, persuasive politician, superb knowledge of administration, virtuoso pianist
Personality / Flaws: Andrius is a kind-hearted, caring individual whom honestly considers every student who ever attended Graiteale Academy as one of his own children. He is capable of being hard-nosed and detached when needed, typically when dealing with the political world of Dulathiene and Talgria. His political addresses are legendary, and he is one of the most moving speakers in Talgria. He is deeply concerned with the protection and elimination of unsavory elements in Dulathiene, and as he did during his adventuring days, in the whole of Talgria...only age and his obligations keep him from the way of life he, Markavius Xandrion, Dorian Acheron, and Renata Florion led in years past. However, sometimes Andrius allows his sentimentality to get the best of him. While he is an extremely fit individual for his age, the fact of the matter is that Andrius Graiteale has led a full and violent 82 years, and they are starting to catch up with him. He is occassionally given to bouts of depression over his inevitable demise.
Background: Andrius Orland Graiteale was born in the Year 1370, to Orvell Orland, the son of a Sevolier merchant tycoon, and Selira Graiteale, the daughter of a wealthy Thiene bueracrat. He grew up in Sevolier for the majority of his childhood, and as a result of dealing with the diverse populace and travelers that came through, became a very tolerant and amiable young man.
Andrius took an interest in swordplay at a very young age, and trained frequently with one of the most skilled swordsmen in Dulathiene (and perhaps all of Talgria), a man known only as Crenshaw. Andrius quickly became Crenshaw's favored pupil, not only for his preternatural talent with a blade, but also due to his deep and vested interest in Crenshaw's old tales of adventure.
Meanwhile, Andrius' mother Selira made certain to educate her child in all the proper matters of etiquette and academia she could (being a very well-educated woman herself as a result of her upbringing). She was always pleasantly surprised at how thoroughly Andrius poured himself into his schoolwork, and was amazed at his seemingly infinite recall.
Around the time Andrius turned 15, Orvell began to worry that Crenshaw's stories were filling his son's head with dreams of an adventurer's life. This concerned Orvell, for he had always intended Andrius to take over the family business once he went to sit with the Goddesses. As a result, Orvell decided it would be prudent to remove Andrius from Crenshaw's tutelage, and set to work intensively grooming the young man to take over.
Truth be told, however, Andrius' heart was never in the blacksmith trade. HIs father's efforts had been too little, too late--Andrius had made up his mind long before that once he was older, he would join the Hunter's Guild as a Slayer, helping to rid the land of the vicious ouzza-spawned beasts that tormented travelers and villages alike, just like his idol, Crenshaw.
A few years later, shortly after Andrius' 20th birthday, his mother and father were killed in an attack on their caravan while traveling to Sevolier to visit Orvell's brother to address matters of inheritance, in a raid by the Praxium Nicocortex. By default, Andrius became the sole beneficiary of both his mother and father, making him by far one of the richest men in all of Dulathiene, and perhaps Talgria.
A normal man would have taken the money and lived a life of luxury for the rest of his days with such wealth, but Andrius--as he would prove throughout his life--was no ordinary man.
For months afterward, he used the last of his father's finest materials to forge himself a breastplate and Felthera barding. Selling the building to an up and coming young smith, he then purchased himself the finest gear he could obtain in the marketplaces of Sevolier, bought the swiftest Felthera he could find, and then donated a vast majority of his wealth to various organizations in his hometown of Dulatheine. Reserving the remainder of his crowns in the treasury of Sevolier, he booked passage to Sanctuary.
Shortly before leaving, he was approached by an elderly woman, carrying a slim parcel that was longer than her meek 5-foot frame. She explained that she was Crenshaw's former wife, and that one of his last wishes had been that Andrius receive his ancestral blade, Mournedge. With a heartfelt thank you, and a vow to make his family and master proud, Andrius boarded the ship that would take him to the seat of holy power in Talgria.
The death of his mother and father had changed the plans he had made for himself as a boy. Andrius now intended to join the Order of Volgrand, to combat the Praxium Nicortex, which until the death of his mother and father had seemed like a conflict that was worlds away...something that would never touch his life.
It was the year 1393 when Andrius Graiteale arrived on the island of Sanctuary. During his initiation and training, he became friends with a mage, named Markavius Xandrion, another of the most promising initiates into the Order, and one of the few mages ever allowed into the Order. Upon their christening as full-fledged Templars, they were assigned to the Southlands, where the Praxium Nicocortex has finally been pushed back to, after almost a hundred years of warfare.
In 1399, Andrius and Markavius were lieutenants of the unified army that sought to end the malice of the Praxium once and for all. Many a legend sprang from the great final battle of the Mage Wars--some spoke of Andrius and Markavius cutting a swath through the magical creations and warrior-mages of the Praxium, destroying their arcane amplifiers, and personally slaying the honor guard of the High Mage, and then the High Mage himself.
Following the end of the conflict, Andrius and Markavius tendered their resignation from the Order, and opted for the freedom of an adventuring life. They were primarily dedicated to dealing with the remnants of the Praxium Nicocortex in the other regions of Talgria, but were jacks-of-all-trades, acting in the same capacity as Slayers, Stalkers, and Seekers of the Hunter's Guild. Throughout their travels, they acquired two new companions, the magess Renata Florion, and the warrior Dorian Acheron.
For the next 32 years, the four companions traversed the globe in search of fame, fortune, justice, and excitement. They became one of the most well-known and beloved adventuring parties in the history of Talgria, the tales of their exploits becoming the stuff of legend.
In the Year 1431, the four parted ways after a sinister turn in the personality of Dorian Acheron that both Andrius and Markavius are averse to discussing even now, though it is known that it resulted in the death of their companion, Renata Florion. In that same year, Andrius decided it time to return to his hometown of Dulathiene, and once there, began construction of a sister academy to Torrill. Originally he intended to call it the Crenshaw University, but the council of Dulathiene insisted it be named after its founder, and thus Graiteale Academy was formed. Around the same time, Markavius Xandrion returned to the city of Torrill where he hailed from, and assumed the Deanship of its Academy.
Just a few months after the opening of Graiteale, Andrius became the legal guardian of three orphans, René and Rena Voltaire and one Lukas Duprei. It was around this time that his former companion, Dorian Acheron, assumed the position of Elite Guardsman and Chancellor to Dulatheine.
Many years have passed in relative peace as Andrius performed the duties of Headmaster at Graiteale Academy.
