Hair / Eyes / Skintone: His hair is gold in color and kept closely shorn, in military style. His eyes are a particularly gentle shade of blue and his skin is lightly tanned
Cultural Distinction: Bendite
Build: Lavitz is of middling height and weight, without the heavy muscles born of labor or the definition brought about by rigorous training.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Lavitz always looks well groomed, with every aspect carefully planned out. He lacks the scars and callouses born of labor and injury, further distinguishing him from less wealthy individuals. His most lavish feature is a moderately sized golden necklace, a gift from his sister.
-----Capabilities-----
Magic / Magic Rating: Wind. Lavitz expresses his power in smaller, less flashy ways than your typical student would. He cannot create any form of breeze or gust, but can keep his clothes untouched by wind and rain. When using his glaive, however, Lavitz’s magic is manifested best. With a little effort he can make his weapon seem light as a feather, or, speed it’s passing through the air. Jumping a little further and being able to hold his breath a few seconds longer than most people are the most vulgar displays of magic he is capable of. Lavitz doesn’t like to talk about it, because that would be too close to bragging for his taste, but there are times when he gets “in the zone” and can feel his reflexes and reaction speed increase. Unfortunately, these moments of clarity often end with Lavitz falling flat on his face.
Magnitude: 4
Speed: 4
Control: 6
Skills / Talents: As the second son of a minor noble, Lavitz has access to a wide variety of opportunities. He is a capable student of many subjects, but especially military theory. His love of military theory and practice has made Lavitz into an unabashed arm-chair tactician and one of his favorite pastimes is discussing military strategy. He can ramble on about the subject for hours, if sufficiently prodded. His love of strategy carries over to tactical games, such as chess and draughts, and while he may not be the best player Lavitz is always willing to play a game. Formal dance is another of his hobbies and is, honestly, the only one he really excels at. His “hidden” talent is sewing, but Lavitz will flatly deny any interest in the subject at all. He has been sewing for around four years, and is good enough that he tailors all of his own clothes.
Equipment: One glaive with an iron shod base. 10 additional outfits, no two in the same pattern or color. Nolagris III’s “Defense of Life” (Treatise on the Mage Wars). Two dressing dummies, sized to mirror Lavitz, and a maintenance kit (which hides his sewing kit). A small locked box, oak, contains letters from his sister and another Marquis’ daughter. One gold pendant and necklace; pendant is inscribed with the image of the sun peaking over a mountain.
-----Characterization-----
Personality: Educated in a dozen different subjects and holding on to an outdated cultural concept, Lavitz is slightly out of touch with the times. His exceptional politeness often ingratiates him with instructors, but distances him from other students. Should the topic of discussion wander into an area of his interest, then he has a tendency to ramble on without stopping. Publicly, Lavitz comes to the defense of anyone he believes is being treated badly or unfairly; a man of honor should come to the defense of the meek. In private, Lavitz is caring and always willing to listen and lend a hand to a friend; after all, a gentleman never refuses a friend in need. He secretly worries about his reputation amongst his peers.
Flaws / Defects: He inherited his father’s honor and pride, and defends them both with his father’s rashness. His personal code outright forbids rudeness, though it says nothing about being curt. A flaw to some is his need to be meticulously dressed, which has made him late to more than one class. His most embarrassing aspect is a childhood habit spawned from hours of imaginary play. Many students have remarked that they hear Lavitz making wooshing and swooshing sounds when drilling with his weapon.
Social Classification: Suck Up.
Goals / Aspirations: To prove himself a worthy son is a major goal for Lavitz. The guy wants to make his Dad proud, which is always harder than it sounds. He has no desire to be the Marquis, because that would mean usurping his sister and brother, but he would love to have that sort of social status and recognition. Lavitz may not relish the thought of serving in the military, especially as a grunt, but he loves the thought of being an officer and a leader. His grand aspiration is to have the respect accorded to his father and the social clout his mother wields.
-----History-----
Family: Father: Marquis Elric Solberg, age 78. Elric is a military man, despite his preference to the hereditary title. He has served in the Bendite military for the majority of his life, as did his father and grandfather. Even before joining the military Marquis Solberg was known for his combative nature. Popular rumor states that Elric escaped to the army after insulting a Lord and his daughter during a formal event. The military curbed his authority issues, but it also taught him to expect rigorous discipline. This strict mindset was in turn impressed upon his sons, often in harsh ways.
Brother: Gerard Solberg, Age 25. Gerard is the first born son of the Marquis and as such he followed his father’s footsteps and joined the military. He shares his father’s penchant for fire magic, in addition to his legendary temper. With almost a decade between the two of them Gerard and Lavitz have never been close. During his childhood Lavitz was often the butt of his brother’s jokes and taunts. He serves in a mounted division at the moment and has developed a reputation for carousing and dueling.
Mother: Theresa Solberg, age 60. Theresa’s family was noble even before she married Elric. Her talents ran more towards the social arena, where she was known for being well read on a large number of subjects and fashionably dressed. Magically speaking she was a decent Air mage, but nothing noteworthy. She was a caring woman, especially towards Lavitz, her “baby”. Theresa is the reason Lavitz was not directly pressed into military training, and instead has been sent to the Academy.
Sister: Irene Solberg, Age 20. Social doesn’t even begin to cover Irene, who is even more fashionable than her mother. Tall and fair skinned with hair the color of honey; she practically radiates beauty and grace. She is a gossiper, a planner and, more importantly, incredibly intelligent. She is only a little older than Lavitz and the two have a close relationship. When Gerard picked on Lavitz, he didn’t run to his mother but to Irene, who was a little more willing to scratch the golden boy. While Irene was being taught how to sew from her mother during the day, she would in turn teach Lavitz later that night. The two write each other very frequently.
Background: Lavitz was the expected third child, a choice made logically and rationally by both parents. Gerard would be the one intended to carry the family name, but accidents do happen. So both boys would be brought up with the same education and the same training, in case misfortune befell the family. Tutors were brought in for all manner of subjects, all of whom found Lavitz to be an... eager student. Gerard, on the other hand, hated his tutors, hated the lectures, and spent all of his time at play with the other lordlings.
Years passed and Lavitz bonded with his sister over their love of reading, learning, and their dislike of Gerard. Lavitz spent the majority of his days dreaming of glory and heroism, while Gerard teased and taunted him without respite. Unfortunately, Lavitz would almost always jump at his brother’s japes, and then be summarily beaten and embarrassed in front of his father and other peers. Irene would always find some way of getting retribution for her little brother, though often in small, indirect ways.
Gerard went away to join the military when Lavitz was only 10, which was a substantial relief. Without his brother to mercilessly tease him, little Lavitz had even more time to himself, allowing him time to indulge his reading habit. With the encouragement of his mother and sister Lavitz learned to dance, and do so well. Their encouragement didn’t end at a few dance moves, and with their help he began developing what would become his “code of honor”. Lavitz, contrary to popular opinion, did go out and socialize with his peers on occasion. He even had begun a relationship with Marquis Rosetti’s daughter, Cecilia, before he left for the Academy. The two plan to correspond regularly until his return.
Throughout this period Elric was not idle, and was not happy with Lavitz by any stretch of the word. He worried that his youngest son was too soft to be a warrior, and that he lacked the skills needed to “properly” serve his City. It was around Lavitz’s 16th birthday that Elric began contemplating sending his son into the military, regardless if he was ready for it or not. Theresa was able to belay her husband’s hasty declaration by pointing out the Graiteale Academy, which was a long way from the safety of home. Lavitz was understandably upset at the fact that he was being sent so far away, and articulated as much to his father. The argument lasted only a handful of words, “That, or the military” before Lavitz complied with his father’s wishes.
Present State of Events: Struggling to handle his PE classes, but otherwise enjoying the experience. He worries about his reputation in school ceaselessly. Lavitz is, in other words, being a typical 17 year old with social difficulties.
